Vision & Mission

SNI Vision

SNI believes in a nut sector where value is fairly and transparently distributed among value chain partners which enables all actors – including farmers, workers, and processors – to have a decent income and livelihood. The production & processing of nuts should aim to improve biodiversity, soil health, climate & water resources and contribute to value creation in production countries.

SNI Mission

SNI is a private sector platform that aims to improve social, environmental and economic aspects of the international nuts sector. The SNI goal is to address the root causes of issues through pre-competitive collaboration, joint action, and the development of relevant tools.

Theory of Change
The Theory of Change serves as a roadmap for SNI participants and their supply chain partners to work towards social and environmental sustainability in the global cashew nut sector.

The Theory of Change illustrates the various steps required to achieve the desired impact on the livelihoods of stakeholders in the supply chain and on the environment. It outlines the roles and responsibilities of SNI participants and demonstrates how SNI, as a platform, supports its members in enhancing sustainability within their supply chains.

Ambition Plan
Our ambition plan formulates tangible action points to create impact in line with our Theory of Change. Jointly developed with our SNI participants, it will guide our participants towards greater sustainability within their cashew supply chain by addressing key social and environmental sustainability challenges by 2030.

Participants foster sustainability by partnering with and source from like-minded supply chain actors. To improve farmers’ livelihoods, SNI participants implement projects within their supply chains to improve farmers’ capacities and professionalism, thereby creating impact beyond certification and compliance. SNI further supports social certification at processing level to improve working conditions, including health and safety. SNI further advocates for a living wage to ensure a decent standard of living for factory workers.

On the environmental side, SNI promotes processing at source, deforestation-free cashew production in line with the EUDR, and supports its participants to reduce greenhouse gas emissions within their supply chains by reporting and developing roadmaps for improvement. To achieve these goals, SNI participants work towards greater transparency and traceability to better understand and address sustainability challenges occurring within their supply chain.
